This recent striped bass fishing charter aboard Tuna Hunter Fishing Charters limited out on slot-sized striped bass – hard to do since most of the stripers caught are above the slot size – a good problem to have. We are quite sure everyone’s grill was sizzling last weekend.

Check out that tail-wrap, and the location of the hook, right there. Seems this bluefin came in backwards, at least for the last part of the battle. Any slack, and he would have been gone. Kudos to these lucky and experienced anglers!

September 1st opens another chunk of bluefin tuna quota, meaning we are again able to sell giant bluefin tuna. Join us for your catch of a lifetime! Tuna Hunter will be fishing every day that weather allows, and we do have openings for you to join us.

We expect September to open with a strong class of giant bluefin in our area – the same group that gave us 5 and 7 hour-long battles in August. We are hoping for some smaller bluefin (under 73 inches) to mix in, as usually happens in the fall, for charters to take home tuna loins for the grill and sushi.

Tuna Hunter will be fishing into November, for as long as weather allows and the bluefin are in our Cape Ann waters. The fall fishing grounds have plenty of bait , plenty of bluefin of different sizes, and low crowds.

Giant bluefin – over 73 inches – caught on sale days, are sold, and the charter get s 20% of the sale price of the fish. Giants caught on restricted days, Tuesday, Friday and Saturday, are tag and release. Bluefin under 73 inches, on any day, may be retained by the charter – one 47 to 73, two 27 to 47 inches. (Regulations may change!)

Whippany Dudes 820lb Bluefin on Tuna Hunter Fishing Charters

Scaggs and the Whippany Dudes joined Tuna Hunter for their annual bluefin tuna fishing charter and this year battled and boated an 820 lb giant bluefin tuna!

The battle took 2 1/2 hours, and all went smoothly after a bit of anchor juggling at the beginning, Par for the course for a bluefin tuna battle. This fish was extra sweet for all, as this was their 4th year, first giant, plus, the group is from the captain’s home town of Whippany, NJ.

This giant bluefin was the largest caught on the weekend of the Cape Ann Bluefin Blowout presented by Lynn Waugh Auto Group. Alas, we were not in the tournament – No matter to the Whippany Dudes – they were happy to celebrate their fish with friends, family and the rest of the tournament crowd at Cape Ann Marina.
