As of July 1st, 2024, the commercial sale of bluefin tuna is restricted to Monday, Wednesday and Thursday.

What does this mean for Tuna Hunter charters?  Not too much – we keep fishing every day for bluefin tuna of any size:

If we catch a giant bluefin tuna – 73 inches or over – on a restricted day – Sun, Tues, Fri, Sat or Sun – we tag it and release it.

If we catch a giant bluefin tuna – 73 inches or over – on a sale day – Mon, Wed or Thurs – we sell the fish, the charter gets meat out of the head and tail of the fish, and 20% of the sale proce of the fish.

If we catch a bluefin tuna under 73 inches, on any day, the charter may retain that fish – according ot the latest NMFS HMS regulations, which are subject to change at any time.  We will filet and steak it out for you, and serve a bit of sushi on the way home.

All fishing regulations are subject to change at any time during the season.

If you have any questions, call or email, 978-407-1351 or captain@tunahunter.com

We do have openings in August and September – please join us for the fishing experience of a lifetime!  We are fishing for bluefin tuna, sharks, haddock and cod offshore, as well as striped bass and bluefish – when they get here – inshore.  If it’s out there and has fins, we’ll help you catch it!

To all our Customers, and all Fishers Everywhere:

We at Tuna Hunter wish everyone the best for safety, health and sanity through this period of uncertainty and fear about the COVID-19 virus and the changes it is imposing on our work and home lives.  We are hoping we all come through this period safe and healthy, and that  come summer we are all healthy and able to go out and play again!

We are committed to being on the water fishing once the weather warms, on our usual schedule:

Fishing is an outdoor, fresh air activity, and private charter boats mean you are the only persons aboard, no mixing with friends you just met.  We carry only your party, a maximum of six charter passengers per trip.  We always carry hand sanitizer and cleaner aboard, and we maintain Tuna Hunter in immaculate shape – the deck and all fishing areas are soaped and bleached after each trip as a matter of routine.

We realize that travel plans, even local travel plans, are on hold at this time because we really do not know how long restrictions will be in place.  Rest assured we are here taking reservations for this summer, and are following federal, state and local government recommendations and mandates on what is possible when.

We will be closely watching COVID-19 recommendations and mandates as our summer season approaches.  We are all hoping that the travel-related closures and restrictions we are all under now will be lifted by this summer, and hope to see all of you around Cape Ann out on the water.  For now, we are planning and preparing for a full fishing season, as usual.

We will be ready, and we will be fishing as long as they let us leave the dock. We look forward to having you join us!  Please contact us if you have any questions about fishing in general, this upcoming season, or cleanliness and safety aboard Tuna Hunter.

We look forward to fishing with you – safe and healthy times to all,

Gary, Karen, Ben, Kali, Tali
